Flood Insurance for Your Well

Well, well, well...

Across the country, there are a lot of residence that has a well with it. It's a very efficient addition to the property's value and its aesthetic. Wells are good means to be efficient with the water that's coming in your property. However, we do get a lot of questions here in the Flood Insurance Guru where our customers are asking, and you might too...

"Is my well covered by my flood insurance?"

Well yeah, it is! Your well is covered by flood insurance, but only for the top part of it. Usually wells do have a built structure which is also considered a property. Regardless if it's made from wood, metal, or concrete, your wellhead, the sanitary seal, and anything above the ground will be covered. It's important to keep this in mind because if you have a make-shift well without proper structure, then your flood insurance policy may not cover it.

However, when it comes to the underground structure like the well casing and such that contains the water, then that part won't be covered by flood insurance.

This goes the same for any property that's sitting above water.  Flood insurance coverage doesn't include these properties within your flood insurance policy since it has higher risk of flooding. This can be the case since your property's basically in the negative base-flood elevation area.
