Today we're talking about Spring flooding and what it really means for the areas that will be impacted when these torrential rains and storm systems go through them.

As we approach the hurricane season, it's pretty normal that insurance agents would help their customers find out their flood insurance options. Preparing for the hurricane season is great but experiencing the effects of it on nature that gets into our homes is another thing.

One of the hidden threats that this season may bring in is what we call a spring runoff or what we call "spring has sprung a leak".

Looking back at what's happening since late March of this year up to this week of May 17th, you'll see how much flooding has been significantly happening across the country. We've seen this happen late in March in Nashville where more than 6-inches of rain were dumped across the state (you can check out our podcast episode on this flood below).

We've also seen this multiple times just this month. In the earlier parts of May, we had seen flooding in Birmingham, Alabama with more than 6-inches of rain also happened and caused a lot of flooding in the area. Just this week, multiple states had to face floodings like most parts of Texas, the Baton Rouge flooding that is still active at the time of writing, and Monett in Lawrence County, Missouri. You can already see the pattern here and how these spring storms are starting spring runoff.

It's one thing to prepare for hurricane flooding that generally happens in coastal areas, but this hurricane season is also presenting threats of spring runoffs across the whole country.

This is why it's important that you understand the threat of flooding to see what you need to do to make sure that your flood insurance is in place.  You want to look into getting that loss avoidance coverage which we covered in a previous video, moving your property to higher ground, and making sure that you can minimize your property from flooding.

Spring runoff and its devastating floods happen each year, but for some reason, flood awareness and preparation during these times aren't pushed as hard as hurricane season is.

If you have questions on how to protect your property against the effects of spring runoff, make sure to reach out to us using the links below. You can call us for a consultation or get a quote for your flood insurance purchase.

Remember, we have an educational background in flood mitigation and we want to share this with you, so you too can be prepared through flood education and awareness.
